Blind Connie Williams, born in south Florida in 1915.
A street musician who was based in Philadelphia for most of his life, Williams could play blues standards, folk songs, and pop tunes, but preferred spirituals. Here’s his version of “Take My Hand, Precious Lord” featuring his signature bass string slapping.
I love finding folks I’ve not heard of before and Mister Williams is a great one.
He is a fine player and great singer well-versed in the traditions of the old days … back when the music was just startin’ out, so to speak. An innovative fella, too, eh.
Savor it, brief though it may be.
