Ring with Cat and Kittens ca. 1295–664 B.C. Ramesside/Third Intermediate Period. Faience. [1200×1200]
Faience is finely glazed ceramic
This is gorgeous!
Thank you. I was wondering where Faience was. Maybe near France?
close. It’s the French name for Faenza, an Italian city that was a centre of production using a similar technique (the Majolica, named after Majorca, another center of production). The same style was named εφυαλωμενα (glass-glazed) for the byzantine production and I am sure they had other names elsewhere in europe.
Faience is so incredibly difficult to get right. Especially delicate lines and shapes like this.
Wow.
