It could be a basaltic lava with aeolian flutes at the sites its of ‘vesicles’ (voids created by degassing when it cooled). Or it could be a meteorite, or even an altered sedimentary rock (less likely)
I’m sure there are many rock hounds out there that will have much more knowledge than my amateur ramblings, so let’s see if any chip in on this post.
The team at JPL subjected this target to a full suite of images taken with both mast Camera-Z using all the filters, so they appear to be as curious as we are as to its mineralogy 🙂
BTW: I hope it’s a meteorite 🙂
