“Continual Dune and Ripple Migration in Nili Patera”
This image of sand dunes in Nili Patera (8.722° N, 67.345° E), a region not far from where Perseverance is exploring in Isidis Planitia, was taken by HiRISE on August 31st, 2012. Nili Patera is a vast dune field that has been constantly monitored from orbit to measure the rate of change in its shifting sands. In my opinion Nili Patera has some of the most beautiful landscapes on Mars; I can’t wait to see pictures of it taken in-situ one day.
The width of this image is about 1 km.
